TOWNDROW FAMILY NEWS

Here’s the latest news on the Towndrow Family across the world.

To subscribe to the occasional snail mail newsletter, Towndrow Global News (TGN), mail Jim Towndrow at towndrow@sympatico.ca. TGN contains information about reunions, new genealogical discoveries and material from the archives. There is also a (more) occasional email - please let us know if you want to be kept informed by this method too.

Old editions of TGN are available to view via the Towndrow Web Portal - click www.towndrow.net

8 Feb 2007

Belated congratulations to...me! A new Towndrow joined the family tree when I married Zoe in November last year. Thos of you who were at the Malvern reunion may remember the pressure I am under to produce a male heir to continue the line...

Glenn Towndrow has confirmed the go-ahead for the 2007 Reunion in Australia - head over to Sydney2007 for details.

20 Nov 2006

A few new Towndrows have been in touch via the website, with one particularly exciting contact from Meaghan Lyttle regarding the lineage of John Joseph T b1815.

Glenn T in Australia is drawing up plans for a Reunion in September 2007.

The death of Tom Towndrow and his part in the Dunkirk evacuation were recorded in an obituary in The Times in September. The illuminating article is available via the Archive page.

Old news.

11 Jan 2006

We have obtained a photo of the recently unearthed Josephine Romney Towndrow Trophy - which unfortunately is unlikely to reach Towndrow hands.

7 Oct 2005

Updates to the website as a result of Malvern 2005: new Archive material, image enhancement on existing material, faster page loading, clearer navigation, photos and report from Malvern.

2 Oct 2005

50 family members attended the Malvern Reunion and there are many new ancestral leads to follow up.

Site visitors are asked to let us know their views on the future of TGN and how it can/should be run in conjunction with the website.

There are murmurings that the next Reunion should be in Australia in 2007. Whilst this is a long way to travel for many, it is a special place to visit and there are two years to plan your trip!

28 Sept 2005

Further additions to the Archive including information on the previously unknown Josephine Romney Towndrow Trophy - and we didn't even know that there was a Josephine T !!

Expecting 48+ to the Malvern Reunion and the prospect of many new ancestral leads to follow up.

10 Sept 2005

TGN 17 is out, containing details of Malvern 2005.

The mailshot in January yielded a modest response in terms of numbers, but uncovered some new leads.

15 January 2005

A mailshot goes out to 80 new Towndrow contacts in the UK this week to attract new interest and discover more information.

The website has been optimised for search engines.

22 November 2004

The 2005 Towndrow Reunion planning committee is working on the itinerary for next year. John T, Roy T and Jean McMaster have been researching venues and activities and hope to let you know more soon. New material has been added to the Archive and the site has been performance-tuned. There is also a brief introduction to Malvern 2005. TGN issue 14 is out now.

21 August 2004

The 2005 Towndrow Reunion now takes place on October 1 & 2 at Malvern, UK. TGN Issue 13 out now.

18 July 2004

The results of the DNA test submitted by Peggy Brown are here - and it is excellent news!

"DNA with Art Towndrow's Dad and my Dad (Richard William Towndrow) has shown a perfect match. 12/12 markers (12 out of 12 markers are exact).  We share a common male ancestor. That is then, Benjamin and Dorothy and Benjamin and Ann ancestors share a common male ancestor."

This is an important breakthrough in tracing our lineage - it proves that the two branches of the family are linked, and our search for that ancestor, which has been ongoing for a long time, is not a vain endeavour.

01 May 2004

To aid in proving ancestral relations, DNA Testing has begun with genetic representatives from two Towndrow families/lines. For more details go to http://www.familytreedna.com/ or access via www.towndrow.net.

We have a newly updated Family Tree posted, and updated descendant trees for both branches of the family.

More new contacts made - welcome to Albert, Lisa, Lee, Rose and Wendy. A spring clean and a new look for the site, hopefully it loads faster too.

01 March 2004

The next Towndrow Global Reunion has been proposed for Malvern, UK on August 20/21, 2005. This location has strong Towndrow links and there will be plenty to see and find out about our ancestry. Technological expertise permitting, we may be able to provide a webcam link to a location in Australia and/or US if there are Towndrows who cannot make the trip and want to congregate more locally. More on this anon.

01 September 2003

New contacts have been made with T's in Australia, the USA and the UK. There's more on famous T's in the Notoriety page. And as usual, I've been fixing bugs in the site...

01 August 2003

The site has been reorganised. New contacts have been unearthed on the WWW. TGN Issue 11 has been produced.

New updates to the site - additions to the Archive and Family Tree pages. There's a photo of the Towndrow Crest which was commissioned by Ralph T for NOTL 2002. We've also uncovered the Towndrow Medal...!

01 August 2002

Sterling work by Glenn T in Australia and Ralph T in England means that we are tantalisingly close to linking the Australian branch into the main family tree. Glenn has also provided some family snapshots which will soon appear in these pages.

The Niagara 2002 reunion was a success, resulting in new acquaintances, seeing familiar faces and unearthing more history. There was much talk of another reunion in 2004...

01 February 2002

News of the site is spreading and we are picking up new genealogical titbits all the time. MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH IN RECENT WEEKS. Art Towndrow has created two new internet portals for the Towndrow clan - www.towndrow.net and www.towndrow.org. These are intended to be the hub for all Towndrow internet activity, so if you have a site you'd like linking to the Towndrow world, contact Art.

01 January 2001

Updates to the Family Tree are still being processed after all the new interest and information that Matlock2000 produced. The Family tree is growing all the time and new lines of investigation are being explored. The site now has a growing amount of archive material available - if you have something to contribute, let us know.

A survey of the Internet has yielded a number of new lines of enquiry for contacting new Towndrows across the world. A e-mailout to a number of addresses has already yielded success with new people contacted, which hopefully will bear the fruit of extending our Tree database.

01 November 2000

Well, if you're here, this isn't news...but the Towndrow website is up and running! This site is linked to our satellite Family Tree site, where you can view the genealogical database.

The breakthrough news that we’ll all be waiting for is the discovery of the link between the ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ sides of the family, as they have become affectionately known since Matlock 2000. Benjamin and Benjamin, it is believed, share a common ancestor, and finding this missing link is one of the key goals being sought. To find out which side you are on, go to Family Tree.

Malvern and Derbyshire have been popular residences for the UK Towndrows in the 1700s and 1800s, but now new groups are emerging. What is the Liverpool connection? And Cornwall?

Lost sheep: New Towndrows are joining the Tree regularly. The latest is Andrew Towndrow from Australia.
